To help transform the modern healthcare experience by expanding access to high quality integrative primary care.

The Kindred Story

Kindred Integrative Care grew from a desire to create a practice rooted in the core values of nursing: whole person understanding, authentic patient partnership, and compassionate, relationship centered care.

Sarah Lauderdale Tyler, MSN, FNP-C, APN, founder of Kindred Integrative Care, was drawn to nursing for its foundation in holistic healing, an approach that honors the physical, psychological, environmental, and spiritual dimensions of health. She began her career as a registered nurse in the Heart and Lung Transplant Intensive Care Unit at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. For six years, she cared for patients awaiting transplant and post transplant, supporting them through complex and often prolonged medical journeys. Many of these individuals lived in the ICU for extended periods, which profoundly shaped her understanding of continuity of care and the relationships formed between patients and those who care for them.

Those years at the bedside revealed that while advanced technology and lifesaving treatments are essential, she came to recognize her skills could have greater impact if she shifted her focus toward prevention, early intervention, and the treatment of chronic disease before it reaches its most devastating stages. This realization led Sarah to pursue advanced training as a Family Nurse Practitioner at Vanderbilt University, where she earned her Master of Science in Nursing in 2012. She is board certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

Her education at Vanderbilt provided a strong foundation in evidence based, best practice medicine. Alongside this training, she continued to study the patient provider relationship, culminating in her Evidence Synthesis thesis on patient empowerment. This work continues to inform her clinical approach and the care framework of Kindred Integrative Care.

A Practice Grounded in Care

Over more than 14 years in primary care, her work has increasingly reflected an integrative approach, one that combines conventional medicine with complementary and alternative therapies, explores root contributors to illness, and respects each individual’s health story. Integrative medicine is the field she continues to advance through clinical practice and ongoing study.

In 2021, Sarah returned to Telluride, Colorado, a place she has long considered home. There, she continued providing care through telemedicine, discovering that virtual visits can preserve meaningful connection while expanding access to integrative primary care.
